SEARCHABLE DOB CONTRACTORS
Find Highly-Rated Contractors And Services
Search the Department of Building’s database of contractors and service pros, including general contractors, engineers, interior designers, architects, expeditors, home improvement contractors, electricians, plumbers, gasfitters, refrigeration and air-conditioning specialists.
Some contractors and vendors may be listed under a company, rather than individual, name, and must be licensed, and have participated on a project during the previous three year period to be included on the list.
The system is used in conjunction with the Permit Wizard to assist residents, project managers and developers in making project decisions.
The DOB's Contractor Rating System
Each building professional receives a score of 1-5 stars representing performance level of their projects over the past three years during (1) building permit intake, (2) permit plan review, and (3) construction. The DOB partners with the BBB for additional insight into quality of work and service.
The DOB's Targeted Enforcement List
The DOB publishes another important list; one that calls out contractors and service providers with potential targeted enforcement.
DOB can deny building permits to individuals or entities with 5+ Stop Work Orders (SWOs) in a 12-month period. The agency’s list identifies, and allows others to identify, those who may be subject to heightened enforcement for potentially violating DC Construction Code and jeopardizing safety. The list names individuals or entities associated with permits issued, and have large numbers of SWOs.
DC residents and others can use this information to evaluate and consider the risk of hiring a building professional facing regulatory action or other targeted enforcement actions.
