DCMA Area Federal And Contractor Job Loss Resources

Since inaguration day 2025, upwards of 4,000 workers in the District of Columbia have filed for unemployment insurance due to the federal government’s firing blitz. Suddenly losing a job can be a traumatic experience.  Sharing of resources can be helpful during this trying time. Here’s what we found:

Washington DC

DC.gov is now offering a dedicated resource hub for federal employees losing their jobs in the current wave of firings. The hub is here.  DC is also hosting a job fair on March 14th. The details are listed on the hub page.

Arlington County Virginia

The Arlington Employment Center in Arlington, Va. created a webpage titled “Transitioning from the Federal Government” that offers tips and resources for federal employees returning to the civilian workforce. There’s Job Seeker page, an interactive map of local workforce boards, and links to search for job opportunities in local and state governments in Virginia.

WUSA reported that Rep. Don Beyer (his NVA U.S. House district includes Alexandria, Falls Church and Arlington),  released a list of resources for his constituency, who make up 16.2% of the federal workforce:

Fairfax County Virginia

Fairfax county is offering a an extensive list of resources that can help former federal employees, contractors and anyone else affected by job loss.

Services listed on their Help for Residents Affected by Federal Workforce Restructuring outreach webpage (pub. Feb. 18 2025) include searching and preparing for a new job with listings available through the county and a database maintained by the Economic Development Authority.

Additionally, financial help is available for many health and human service programs, taxes and other expenses.

Maryland

Maryland launched a centralized hub of programs and resources available to support federal employees and contractors who have been impacted by layoffs, firings and changes to federal funding. The detailed landing page offers many helpful links, including legal resources and federal employment rules & regulations, job search help, and unemployment guidance, county program lists and job boards.
