Barney Circle Development
Barney Circle development may see a bump thanks to recent redevelopment in Hill East. Home buyers have favored the neighborhood for rehabs and small infill projects, but as new condos and apartments flood the Hill East Market and acquisition prices rise, Barney Circle is getting a second look from developers. Barney Circle was designed as a square but became a traffic circle in 1903. It’s boundaries are often in dispute, though commonly held to be Pennsylvania Avenue, Potomac Avenue, 15th Street SE and 17th Street SE. Many Lincoln Park and Hill East residents consider their homes to be in Barney Circle. The neighborhood is known for its WWII-era "daylight houses." In 2013, DDOT announced plans to reconfigure Barney Circle for improved access to neighborhood streets and the addition of pedestrian and bike connectivity to the Anacostia River waterfront. In 2014, the plan evolved to an intermodal transportation hub. As of 2017, the plan has not received a green light for construction start.
